Getting to Zhangjiajie: every direct train and flight, city by city

There are two doors into Zhangjiajie: Hehua Airport (DYG), on the edge of the city 5–6 km from the centre, and Zhangjiajie West railway station, about 10 km out, where every high-speed train arrives. Both are 25–40 km from the park gates at Wulingyuan. International flights are few, so most overseas visitors fly to Changsha, Guangzhou, Shanghai, Beijing, Hong Kong or Chongqing first and come in by train or a domestic flight. The table is the direct services on the November 2026 timetable; they change with the seasons, so check your own date.

City by city

Changsha

The main gateway. Changsha Huanghua airport has the international routes; from there the high-speed train reaches Zhangjiajie West in 2–3.5 hours, with 40 or more departures a day from the two Changsha stations and the fastest under two hours. Second-class fares run about ¥150–300. Hunan is inside China’s 240-hour visa-free transit scheme — the rules and ports change, so check before you book.

Chongqing

Since the Chongqing–Xiamen high-speed line opened in June 2025 there are 15 direct trains a day from Chongqing East, the fastest in 2 hours 06 minutes. Chongqing East is a long way from the city centre: allow an hour to reach it. There is no flight.

Hong Kong, Guangzhou and Shenzhen

One direct train a day leaves Hong Kong West Kowloon, 6 hours 42 minutes via Shenzhen North, Guangzhou South and Huaihua. Guangzhou South has six direct trains (5.5–6 hours), Shenzhen North three. Both cities also have direct flights, but only a few a week.

Shanghai

Flying saves most of a day: 2–2.5 hours from Pudong, four or five flights daily. The two direct trains take from 7 hours 15 minutes; second class is about ¥750–850.

Beijing

Fly — 2.5–3 hours, about three flights a day. The single direct high-speed train takes 12 hours (second class about ¥900–1,050); changing at Changsha South brings it down to 9–10.5 hours, and there is an overnight sleeper of about 18 hours.

Xi’an

A 90-minute flight, with a morning departure that lands before eleven and evening flights; the one direct train takes 9.5 hours (second class ¥683).

Chengdu

Direct high-speed trains have run since January 2026: seven a day, 4–5.5 hours. There are also direct flights.

Guilin

One direct train a day, 7–7.5 hours, with a second morning service on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Second class ¥342.

Fenghuang and Furong Town

Both are on the Zhangjiajie–Jishou–Huaihua high-speed line: Fenghuang 11 trains a day in about an hour, Furong Town eight in 23 minutes. Note that Furong Town has no morning train back; the first departure is around noon.

International flights

Seoul Incheon flies year-round. The other international routes — Bangkok, Hong Kong, Ho Chi Minh City, Singapore and more — open and close by season. Plan on a connection through Changsha or another hub unless you have confirmed a direct flight for your dates. Prices and timetables last checked October 2026; they change — treat them as a guide, not a quote.

Once you arrive

From the airport to Wulingyuan is about 40 km, 40–50 minutes, around ¥100 by taxi. From Zhangjiajie West to Wulingyuan is about 25 km, 30–40 minutes, ¥60–90 by taxi, with a coach from the bus station beside the station for ¥13–15. Details on the airport page and the station page.
