Zhangjiajie West: the station every high-speed train uses

Zhangjiajie has two railway stations. Zhangjiajie West is the high-speed station: it opened in December 2019 with the Qianjiang–Changde line, gained the Zhangjiajie–Jishou–Huaihua line (for Fenghuang and Furong Town) in December 2021 and the Chongqing line in June 2025, and every high-speed train from Changsha, Chongqing, Guangzhou, Hong Kong, Shanghai and Beijing arrives here. Zhangjiajie station, the old one in the city, takes conventional trains only — no high-speed services stop there. Check the station name on your ticket.

Getting out of the station

  • Taxi. Follow the signs down to the B1 car park for the taxi rank. Wulingyuan ¥60–90; the city centre is about 10 km.
  • Coach. The bus station next to the railway station runs coaches to Wulingyuan: ¥13–15, about 30 minutes, until early evening. They end at Wulingyuan bus station; from there it is a short ride (about ¥10) to most hotels or the East Gate.
  • City bus. Several routes run into the city and to the old station; allow up to an hour.
  • On to Fenghuang or Furong Town. Change here onto the next high-speed train: Furong Town in 23 minutes, Fenghuang in about an hour.

Inside

Departures, ticketing and the waiting hall are on the upper floor; arrivals come out on the ground floor. Tickets are electronic and tied to your ID: Chinese travellers scan an ID card at the gates, foreign passports go through the staffed channel, and no paper ticket is needed. Bags go through security at the entrance; forty minutes before departure is enough. Tickets go on sale fifteen days ahead counting the day of travel — trains that start from Zhangjiajie West are released at 16:30 — and foreign passports can book on the 12306 app or through international booking sites. Direct trains from each city are listed on the getting-here page.

The old station: Zhangjiajie

Zhangjiajie railway station is in the city, next to the Tianmen Mountain cableway station — a few minutes’ walk. Only conventional trains still call: the K-series from Beijing, for instance, takes about 23 hours. The overnight sleeper from Beijing West now runs to Zhangjiajie West, not here, and no high-speed train to Fenghuang or Furong Town leaves from the old station. If a booking site offers “Zhangjiajie” and “Zhangjiajie West”, the West station is the one you almost certainly want. Prices and timetables last checked October 2026; they change — treat them as a guide, not a quote.
