Where it flies
Domestic direct flights (summer 2025 schedule): Shanghai four a day; Beijing, Xi’an and Nanjing three each; Chengdu and Shenyang two; one each from Guangzhou, Wuhan, Guiyang, Ningbo, Dalian, Lanzhou and Xuzhou; plus Hangzhou, Kunming, Fuzhou, Tianjin, Xiamen, Harbin and others. There are no flights from Changsha or Chongqing — take the train. The winter schedule from late October differs, so check your date.
International: at the end of 2025 the airport listed fifteen international destinations — Hong Kong, Seoul, Busan, Daegu, Cheongju and Jeju; Bangkok, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Kota Kinabalu and Singapore; and Ulaanbaatar — with more than a hundred international flights a week in high season. Seoul Incheon runs all year; Singapore started in October 2025 three times a week; most of the rest are seasonal. In 2025 the airport handled more than 510,000 international passengers, 93.7% of them foreign nationals — the highest share of any airport in China. Even so, most overseas visitors still connect through Changsha, Guangzhou, Shanghai, Beijing or Hong Kong; the getting-here page compares the options.
From the airport to Wulingyuan
- Taxi or Didi straight to a Wulingyuan hotel: about ¥100. The easiest option in daylight.
- Coach. There is no direct airport coach to Wulingyuan. Take a taxi (¥10–25) or a city bus to the Central Bus Station in the city, then the Wulingyuan coach: ¥12–13, 35–45 minutes, roughly every ten minutes, running from early morning until about 5:30 pm. It ends at Wulingyuan bus station, a short hop from the hotels.
- Staying in the city: a taxi takes 10–15 minutes.
The two “free buses”
The airport runs its own free shuttle, boarded with a boarding pass. It goes to the Zhangjiajie International Hotel in the city centre and no further — it does not go to Wulingyuan. Outside arrivals you may be offered a “free bus to Wulingyuan”; that is a tour company’s vehicle, and the free ride comes with a sales stop in town. For Wulingyuan, take a taxi or the coach from the Central Bus Station.
Landing late
Quite a few flights land after 9 pm, including the evening flight from Xi’an at about 9:45 pm. The coach stops around 5:30 pm, so after a late landing a taxi is the way. Keep your hotel’s name and address in Chinese on your phone to show the driver.
Going back
Wulingyuan to the airport is about 40 minutes by road. The airport is 6–7 km from the Tianmen Mountain cableway station, so a last half-day on Tianmen Mountain before a flight works best from a city hotel.
Decide the gate before you decide the ride
The forest park’s two busiest gates — the East Gate at Wulingyuan town and the South Gate on the forest-park side — are about half an hour apart by road. Choose your hotel and therefore your gate first; then you know which way to head from the airport. Prices and timetables last checked October 2026; they change — treat them as a guide, not a quote.
